What’s Up With High School? A WESS Q&A

As the school year winds to a close I wanted to take a moment to ask rising freshmen, along with other current middle schoolers about their expectations, concerns, and hopes for high school.  The following article is composed of various assumptions complied from anonymous middle schoolers, followed by high schoolers’ answers.

Assumption 1: More homework is something to be concerned about when going into high school.

Lily Berkman (11th) responds: If you come home after your activities and start grinding immediately you can get it done immediately. As long as I space my time out correctly. You have to get on your projects or else you're going to end up doing a nine-page essay for seven hours on the last page.

Assumption 2: High school will be much harder than middle school academically.

Leia Howard (11th) responds: WESS does a really good job of that jump between A and B. [It] doesn't really feel like you're going from middle school to high school, it's just another year at school. Also, I feel like the teachers are really understanding like if you … can't do work one day as long as [it’s] a one-time occasion, they're usually pretty understanding about late work and letting you turn it in.

Assumption 3: There will be more trips in high school

Georgia Butler (12th) responds: [One nice trip was when] we went to a train station [and] got to interview random people in the hall… We had like two pictures of the old train station versus the new train station… [and we asked people] Which one do you prefer?

Jordyn Livne (10th) responds: We went on the UN trip, which was a lot of fun… I really enjoyed the tour. My tour guide was hilarious. I love him… Shout out to the Korean guy that works at the UN, that's my GOAT.
