Track and Field

With the indoor track season ending, we’re heading into spring track off to a bright start! (see announcements below.) 

The WESS Track Team has demonstrated the values of accountability, sacrifice, and humility, and will continue to do so throughout the upcoming season. With new runners on the team showing their potential, strengths, courage, and abilities, they continue to grow within themselves, making the team stronger and more capable during races. Our senior and junior captains are great role models for the team, ensuring our WESS Runners can achieve their best. The borough and city qualifiers have led our team far, and into the PSAL. This team has dominated school records, setting tougher personal goals for runners on the team to achieve. Their continued excellence has shown what determination and dedication really look like!

Basketball

With the combination of two amazing public schools (Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music and Art and Performing Arts and West End Secondary School) LaGWESS is the girls’ basketball team.

With playoffs kicking off soon, the entire team has been consistent when it comes to practice. The team is most effective on defense. Winning most of their games, the team captains have motivated and helped keep the athletes’ aware in any situation and provided constructive feedback for each other. While most of the team are seniors and juniors, the freshmen have dominated by scoring lots of points for the team, proving that their age is just a number. With the freshmen scoring as close to as many points as the seniors and juniors, they show skill and determination towards practice and games and are going to keep moving forward, successfully!

• The last indoor (Winter) season track meet is March 9, 2025 (Frosh/Soph) Girls in the morning, boys in the afternoon

• The first Spring track practice is March 3, 2025

• The first Spring track meet is March 24, 2025, for girls, and March 25, 2025 for boys

Basketball

• Playoffs begin right after Spring Break!
